Steaks and Frites at L'Entrecote

As part of my monthly food review for work, I often find myself scouring the blogosphere for interesting foodie places to try out. After seeing a lot of rave reviews for L'Entrecote, a French restaurant in the Burgos Circle area, I decided to give their Steaks and Frites meals a shot.

I love the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. There is a subtle elegance that the place exudes lead one to believe that it is a fine dining restaurant (which it is not).

All of us decided to order the Menu L'Entrecote. This is a set meal of steak with secret herb butter sauce, unlimited frites and a mixed green salad with walnuts.

First of all, the complimentary bread that they serve before the meal itself is really, really good. It is freshly made so it is soft on the inside yet the outside is crunchy.

The mixed green salad was good too. The greens used were fresh and the cherry tomatoes were sweet. I liked the balance of the acidity and sweetness of the dressing but I wasn't a big fan of adding walnuts to the salad.

The steak and frites were served at the same time. The frites is basically French fries but sliced thinner than usual so when they are fried, it comes out crispier than regular fries. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. It is served on a silver platter on top of candles so it would keep warm as we eat.

The reason why I picked this restaurant is that I really wanted to try the secret herb butter sauce. Maybe it's just me whose palate isn't used to the strong flavors of the herbs used but I thought that the sauce just overwhelmed the flavor of the steak. I feel that if they just toned down the herbs a bit, I would have enjoyed the meal a lot better.

The meal was quite satisfying despite my qualms about the sauce. You should try it if you're looking for something a little different but be wary of the hefty price tag that comes with a meal at L'Entrecote. The Menu L'Entrecote costs 880 pesos but if you want some dessert or wine to go with your meal, you can order the Menu Geneva for 1,190 pesos instead.
