Relaxing Weekend at Valentino Resort and Spa

A great yet inexpensive resort so close to Manila is hard to come by for a number of reasons. First, the Batangas, Laguna and Cavite areas are so commercialized it doesn't feel like you're leaving the city at all. Second, if you want a well-maintained resort, you have to pay a hefty price tag. And lastly, it is often over-crowded.

That is why I was worried my second visit to Valentino Resort and Spa would be a disappointing one. When I first went there last year, it appeared to be fairly new and everything was pretty and polished just like a new resort should. For the second visit (upon hearing they were charging more or less the same price as before), I worried that the place would be at least two of the three things I mentioned above. Fortunately, they proved me wrong.

In both my stays, we stayed in their villas. Each villa has enough space for four people but with a little maneuvering and a couple of extra mattresses, you could fit six people in there. Last time, we stayed at the Mediterranean villa which had pretty orange-hued walls and two single beds. This time, we stayed at the Italian villa.

Both were relatively the same size and both were clean. I do think they should at least put a shower curtain in their bathroom so the water won't be all over the place and that they should invest a little more on furnishings since the dining/living areas appeared bare. I preferred the Mediterranean villa mostly because it really matched the theme it was going for. The Italian villa wasn't as Italian looking as I had hoped.

The villas and rooms are in close proximity to the pools. They have three pools in the resort. One is a lap pool with a jacuzzi. In our last visit, we spent a lot of our time in this area because it was less crowded since the kiddie pools was in the other area. The other pool area has a waterfall and the kiddie pool connected to it. Both areas have plenty of comfortable cabanas where you can take an afternoon nap while the sun is too high in the sky for swimming.

I love their pools. They are clean and the chlorine doesn't appear to be too heavy. Unfortunately, it was raining so hard this weekend that it became too cold for a comfortable swim in the pool so we lasted only an hour and a half. But on a good semi-sunny day, lounging in the pool areas would be perfect.

On my first visit, there was a conference in the resort so the spa was fully booked by the time we got there. Fortunately, we were able to avail of their spa services this time around. The whole body massage goes for 350 pesos and it was so relaxing I could have stayed there all night. The spa appeared clean and it is beautifully decorated. Their therapists are also friendly and courteous.

Last but certainly not the least is the food. The food in Valentino is just amazing! For dinner, we had Pork Sinigang (160 pesos), 1 whole Fried Chicken (300 pesos) and Tortang Talong (80 pesos). That is good for six people so we just paid a little over a hundred pesos for the whole meal. That is a steal considering how yummy everything was. Their food really is top notch with fresh vegetables and meat.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at how well-maintained the resort was. I would visit it again and again because of their beautiful pools, yummy food, relaxing spa and great service. You should too.
