I like to watch premiere episodes of a lot of new shows because I try not to judge a TV show by its trailer (or its synopsis). Surprisingly, I found a promising new show airing from ABC Family called the Nine Lives of Chloe King right in the middle of the summer season drought.
Based on a novel by Liz Braswell, the Nine Lives of Chloe King is about a 16-year-old girl who discovers she has cat-like powers. I was a bit wary of the show at first especially since it seemed like it was one of the many shows trying to achieve the success of The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars. But after watching the first episode, I think I'm going to be hooked for the rest of the season.
The lead character, played by Skylar Samuels, is awkward yet totally spunky. In fact, she kind of reminds me of the sisters from Charmed which is definitely plus points in my book. Her two human best friends aren't just dead weight while her newfound Mai (cat-people) friends are very much crucial to the storyline.
Oh... and the Alek guy is hooot. He was a jerk for the first half of the episode but he made up for it halfway through. He's kinda like a made for TV Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four)... not as hot as the original but good enough for TV. :P
UPDATE: I think Benjamin Stone is waaay hotter than Alex Pettyfer now. Heh.
The first episode, though, isn't perfect. There are a couple of holes in the story that I hope would be explained in the next few episodes. And there were a couple of things that happened that I wished didn't (like the cute guy from the club dying). But they did have that brilliant twist in the end which I won't reveal because it will spoil the fun for those who haven't watched the show. Overall, it was a very decent premiere and I can only hope good things for this show. :)
